Cold, empty flat - but petrol's cheap!

Back from the airport having dropped Nicole off - but at least it's only ten days until I fly back. And there are plenty of Christmas parties coming up between now and then.

For anyone wondering what we're driving (and you really do have to have a car here) we bought a Toyota Rav4 from somone who was leaving. It's been very good so far and it's not the most gas-guzzling of SUVs. Petrol was over $4 a gallon when we arrived but now down below $2 - better for the wallet even if worse for the environment. Almost makes up for the slump in the £ (down from over $2 in the summer to $1.44!).

Washington now very cold (33 degrees - am enjoying thinking in fahrenheit again). Heating on 24/7 and last night we had our first log fire. The flat has definitely benefited from Nicole's return..... My exciting non-work tasks for the week are to buy a vacuum cleaner (how do you know what makes a good one?) and argue with work over blinds.

Before I go - story just on the TV was from a church in Detroit where they drove three SUVs on to the altar and prayed for the auto industry......
